Quinta da Cruz – Centro de Arte Contemporânea

Quinta da Cruz - Centro de Arte Contemporânea de Viseu (Portugal) was created as a dynamic hub for art, culture and identity. It is a cultural space geared towards the exhibition of contemporary art, the development of artistic practices and is seen as an engine for local artistic promotion. Intended for public enjoyment, culture and leisure, it is set in a large green area of remarkable biodiversity.

Bathed by the River Pavia, it is a unique place located outside the central perimeter of the city and an inspiring territory where nature and art meet, contaminate and create unique synergies.

Acquired by Nicolau de Mendonça Falcão do Amaral at the end of the 18th century, the property covers 10 hectares of green space, decorated with exotic species that interact harmoniously with native elements and reactivate a collective memory of this space.

Currently owned by the Viseu City Council, Quinta da Cruz reopened to the public in 2014 as an engine for cultural activities with multiple concerns in the areas of art, nature and community. It is projected as the "Contemporary Art Centre of Viseu", whose valences complement each other in a fruitful relationship that generates new dialogues: through the development of short-term exhibition programs, the encouragement of artistic creation and the promotion of projects that reflect on the state of art and its role in contemporary society. The annual schedule is closely linked to the multi-nucleated infrastructure that characterizes it.

Raising awareness, creating and training audiences are part of the strategic objectives of Quinta da Cruz - Centro de Arte Contemporânea de Viseu.

Quinta da Cruz covers around five hectares and is a cultural and leisure space of excellence.

Contemporary art comes to life at Quinta da Cruz, with a privileged view over the River Paiva. Nature and art come together in the same space, in a unique experience of contact with the biodiversity characteristic of the area and, at the same time, with temporary exhibitions and a diverse range of activities and creative workshops for the youngest.
